A New Direction for Inhalant
Packaging
The Problem
James Alexander Corporation’s inhalant package did not always have the clean, simple look of today’s
inhalant. The inhalant package with a crushable
glass ampoule was
originally conceived in order to deliver pharmaceutical products
via inhalation. The original design consisted of four distinct
parts, and the resulting manufacturing process was complex and
inefficient. The product label, crucial to the proper identification
of pharmaceutical products, was often barely legible. The industry
was desperately in need of a package redesign.
The Solution
Under the guidance and creative drive
of Alexander Davidson, one of JAC’s founders, the inhalant
was redesigned to contain just two components, the crushable
glass ampoule containing the liquid contents and single piece inhalant
cover made of cellulose acetate with an outer wrapping of paper.
The newly designed inhalant cover could now be printed with consistently
high quality.
In addition, James Alexander was
able to design and build streamlined manufacturing machinery that
greatly enhanced production output while at the same time improving
the quality and functionality of the package.
JAC’s inhalant has become
the industry standard for delivery of pharmaceutical inhalant products.
Due to the enhanced design, other industries, including aromatherapy,
safety, insect attractants and fragrances, have adopted the James
Alexander design.
